Police are investigating a shocking online video which appears to depict three youths at Coogee cutting white powder at a table in broad daylight outside a popular kiosk on the beachfront.
The footage was taken at the same time as a rally last Saturday, when a convoy of pro-Palestinian motorbikes arrived at the beachside suburb and were greeted by pro-Israel supporters.
The video, posted on social media platform X, shows a crowd gathered along Arden St opposite the Coogee Bay Hotel waving flags in support of Israel, before the camera swings to the three male teens sitting at a nearby wooden table next to a cafe.
The boys are using mobile phones, credit cards and wooden ice block sticks to cut and measure out the white substance on the public table at the busy beach.
They look up, surprised by the attention at one point and take some of the items off the table.
NSW Police were asked if they were aware of the footage, circulating widely online, with fifty thousand views.
“Police are aware of the footage and are conducting inquiries,” a spokesman said.
NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research data shows Sydney’s eastern suburbs host some of the worst hotspots for cocaine use in Australia.
In Coogee, the rate of drug offences for use or possess cocaine is 365.4 per 100,000 population — compared with the NSW average of 31.3.
