Video footage has captured a dramatic police chase showing the moment an allegedly stolen car evaded several police vehicles in Wollongong.
Police were patrolling Windang Rd in Windang shortly before 8am on Wednesday when they spotted the vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver accelerated away from officers, leading them to initiate a pursuit. The chase was terminated a short time later due to the driving manner.
Police continued to monitor the driver’s movements before they lost sight of the vehicle.
Less than an hour later the car was located abandoned in an underground carpark on Northcliffe Drive in Warrawong.
The dramatic vision shows a black Volkswagen reversing away from two police cars at an intersection.
The vehicle then performs a sharp turn and accelerates back towards the officers, speeding past them as they scramble to give chase.
A person in the car that captured the footage can be heard exclaiming, “Oh my god, oh my god, it’s backing up”.
“They just drove into that car there, oh my god.”
No arrests have been made and the driver of the vehicle is still at large.
Inquiries are continuing.
