Two female students have been stabbed in a random attack on the grounds of a university. One is in a critical condition.

A student is in a critical condition after a stabbing incident at Australian National University.
Two 20-year-old female students were taken to hospital following the incident, with one in a critical condition, after emergency services were called to the campus about 2.45pm.
A 34-year-old man was assaulted but was not taken to hospital.
A 24-year-old man, not believed to be a university student, is in police custody. He has not been charged at this time.
Police are not searching for any other people, with the motive behind the incident unknown.
ANU vice chancellor Professor Brian P. Schmidt sent an email to the university community about 5.30pm and said the incident was under control.
“Three people were injured and taken to hospital and our thoughts are with their friends and families,” he said.
“I request you continue to stay away from Fellows Oval and Chifley Meadow as they remain an active scene of investigation.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the swift and efficient response from ACT Policing, ACT Ambulance Service and our own ANU Security team.
“I understand this incident may have caused distress among members of our community and I want to remind you that support is available. In times like these, it is essential we support one another and stay connected as a community.”
The boundary of the entire oval has been blocked off with police tape, with students asked to avoid the area.
