Two men have been charged with being accessories before the fact to a series of anti-Semitic attacks in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
The former home of Jewish community leader Alex Ryvchin was among the properties targeted in a spate of anti-Semitic attacks, where vehicles were torched and homes were defaced with offensive graffiti.
Ryvchin, the co-chief executive of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, had sold the Dover Heights property three years ago.
However in last month’s attack, red paint was splashed on the house, anti-Semitic slurs were graffitied on vehicles and a van and a Mercedes-Benz were torched in the driveway.
Detectives arrested the pair, aged 37 and 33, at a correctional facility on Wednesday before charging them at Riverstone Police Station.
Both men have been accused of being accessories before the fact to damaging property by fire and of participating in a criminal group.
The attacks occurred across two locations in January.
On January 11, five vehicles and two homes on Henry St in Queens Park, were defaced with offensive graffiti.
Then on January 17, two vehicles were set alight on Military Rd in Dover Heights, with additional vehicles and homes vandalised.
Police from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command initially led inquiries before Strike Force Pearl was established to investigate.
Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested the two men on February 19.
The pair remain in custody and are due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on April 3.
