A man – already out on bail over an alleged kidnapping – has been charged with stabbing a supermarket employee in Sydney’s west after he and his heavily-pregnant partner were accused of stealing a pair of Bonds underwear and a jar of Nutella.

Daniel Jaderi, 31, and his partner, Britney Burdon, 21, were arrested and charged after police responded to calls a supermarket employee had been stabbed multiple times at the IGA supermarket on Garfield Rd, Riverstone, around 4.15pm on Sunday.

Another employee was allegedly punched in the face by the pair.

Following an altercation with the IGA staff member, Magistrate Attia told the court Jaderi allegedly removed a 25cm silver-covered knife from his front pocket.

“He stabbed the alleged victim twice to the torso causing lacerations,” he said.

The court heard Jaderi was previously arrested on January 16 and charged with affray, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and take or detain person in company.

Court documents state on January 16, Jaderi armed himself with a “long pole object” before he wounded and detained a male while in the company of Britney Burdon in Liverpool.

In relation to the Liverpool incident, Mr Wassef said his client was acting in self defence.

“His life was in danger and his pregnant partner’s life was in danger,” he said.

Mr Wassef argued his client armed himself and struck the alleged victim before he escaped with the weapon.

Magistrate Rami Attia said Jaderi’s previous offending in Liverpool was “objectively serious”

and revoked the bail granted on January 25.

In relation to Jaderi’s alleged offending at the northwest Sydney IGA, his lawyer Mr Wassef made no application for bail.

Jaderi appeared at Blacktown Local Court from Amber Laurel Correctional Centre on Monday and entered no pleas to the charge of wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

His lawyer, Mina George Wassef, made no application for bail and told the court his client was granted bail on January 25 for unrelated matters.

Magistrate Attia refused Jaderi’s bail and adjourned the fresh matter for March 15 at Penrith Local Court and his earlier offence for March 14 at Campbelltown Local Court.

The 31-year-old’s partner, Britney Burdon, also appeared before Blacktown Local Court on Monday, pleading not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and larceny.

Burdon’s lawyer said her client was six-months pregnant and acted in self defence when she was approached by the loss prevention officer as there were “some items she didn’t want to show”.

Court documents state Burdon allegedly stole $30 worth of Bonds underwear and a jar of Nutella at the Riverstone IGA.

In applying for bail, Burdon’s lawyer said her client needed to access medical care for her pregnancy and could live with her future-in laws under strict reporting conditions while working as a mechanic in Liverpool.

The prosecution argued Burton posed a risk of not attending to future court dates as she was issued a warrant for a separate matter before Liverpool Local Court.

He said Burdon would have “ways to contact” Jaderi through her in-laws which could “collude in relation to this matter and hearings”.

Magistrate Attis granted Burdon bail under strict conditions including to report to Fairfield police station daily, avoid all contact with Daniel Jaderi and to not enter Riverstone marketplace.

Burdon’s matter was adjourned for March 7 at Blacktown Local Court.
