Two males have been arrested, and one charged, after a woman was allegedly placed into a headlock and assaulted on the ground by a group of people in the Blue Mountains.

Just after 4pm last Thursday, October 27, officers responded to reports of an assault at Katoomba Railway Station.

Police were told a 27-year-old woman was approached by a group of people at the station, one of whom directed offensive comments at the woman, before she was allegedly assaulted.

As the woman attempted to flee, it is alleged that she was placed into a headlock and pushed to the ground where the group allegedly kicked her in the head and torso and punched her in the jaw.

The group then fled the scene and the woman rang police before seeking safety in a nearby park to wait for assistance.

It’s alleged that the group also went to the same park where one of the men threw a piece of brick at the woman, striking her in the face.

When police arrived, the group ran away. However, a 22-year-old man was arrested a short distance away.

The Blackheath man appeared at Katoomba Local Court and was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on November 11.

Following further inquiries, a 15-year-old boy was arrested at Katoomba Police Station on November 1. He will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

The woman was treated for a number of injuries to her body and continues to recover at home.
