Rising NRL talent Tristan Sailor will stand trial to fight allegations he sexually assaulted a woman at a home in Sydney’s south.

The 22-year-old former Dragons fullback — who is the son of rugby league great Wendell Sailor — faced Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday after being charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault inflicting actual bodily harm.

Prosecutors previously alleged the 24-year-old woman was found unresponsive at a Wolli Creek home after meeting Sailor at Bondi’s Beach Road Hotel last October.

At Sailor’s bail application last year the court was told the woman texted Sailor the next day and asked: “What happened last night (?)”.

Sailor allegedly replied: “We were playing drinking games and yes we did have sex. I asked you and (your friend) so everything was sweet”.

Sailor’s defence lawyer, Richard Pontello, SC, said at the time the texts reflected his client’s version of events that the alleged encounter was consensual.

Court records state Sailor, who is out on bail, has been committed to stand trial to fight the two charges in the NSW District Court.

He is due to be arraigned in that higher court on June 18 when he will likely enter pleas to both charges.

Sailor attempted to reignite his sporting career in the Illawarra District Rugby competition and has spent the pre-season training with the Wollongong Vikings after being released by St George Illawarra.

But Rugby Australia blocked Sailor under its registration policy that relates to alleged criminal conduct.

He is unable to register for any league club while his legal matter is unresolved, so it is unlikely he will be pulling on the boots anytime soon.

He was released by the Dragons in September last year before he was charged.
