Trent Jeske charged by police investigating ongoing Hamzy-Alameddine war

Police investigating the ongoing feud between the Hamzy and Alameddine crime families have arrested two men — one from each side — who were allegedly found with guns.

Associates of both the Hamzy and Alameddine crews have been arrested after allegedly being caught in possession of guns during police raids targeted at stopping their ongoing tit-for-tat war.

Alameddine associate Trent Jeske, 23, was arrested at a home in Guildford about 8am on Friday after a police raid allegedly discovered a loaded handgun inside.

About the same time just a few suburbs away in Auburn, police were also arresting an 18-year-old man who they allege is linked to the Hamzy organised crime network.

He too was allegedly found in possession of a firearm.

The raids, which were a joint operation by the Criminal Groups and Raptor Squads, were the latest effort of police to quell the ongoing violence between the two crews, which police believe has led to multiple deaths.

Criminal Groups Squad commander Detective Superintendent Grant Taylor said police would allege in court that the two men arrested were involved in the conflict.

“Police will allege both parties are involved in ongoing conflict which is plaguing organised crime groups in southwest Sydney, and I have no doubt the seizure of these weapons and the arrest of these men will hurt,” Det Supt Taylor said.

“That one of these men is subject to an FPO (firearm prohibition order) and (allegedly) still chooses to carry a firearm is a real concern for us, and the entire networks of both people can expect to be firmly in the sight of police.”

Jeske has been charged with six offences including possessing an unauthorised firearm, affray, two counts of possessing ammunition without holding a licence, not complying with Covid directions, and not disclosing the identity of a driver or passenger.

When police arrived at the home of the teenager linked to the Hamzy crew it is alleged he tried to flee on foot.

But officers chased him down and arrested him, before searching the home and a nearby car.

After finding a firearm, in an alleged breach of the man‘s firearm prohibition order, he was taken to a nearby police station, where he is expected to be charged.

Raptor Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Jason Weinstein said police would continue to proactively pursue those linked to the two crews, in a bid to stop further crimes being committed.

“The ongoing violence we’re seeing in southwest Sydney poses a completely unacceptable risk to members of the community and it will not be tolerated,“ Det Supt Weinstein said.

“Every night, Raptor Squad officers will continue to be out in force focused on those who want to display and use the streets of Sydney to engage in violent behaviour.

“We are using every legislative tool at our disposal on those who have more sinister intentions for other members of our community.“

So far the war between the Alameddine and Hamzy crews has resulted in the deaths of senior underworld figures Mejid Hamzy and his cousin Bilal Hamze. Police believe Shady Kanj, who was shot dead in August, was linked to the Alameddines.
