Top dogs’ power struggle for Comanchero bikie gang presidency

A major power struggle has emerged between two senior bikies for control of the Comanchero — one from NSW and the other from Victoria.

Comanchero bikie boss arrested and charged with murder

NSW-based bikie Allan Meehan is holding tight to the national presidency of the Comanchero bikie gang, despite its former leader trying to take back the reins of the most dangerous gang in Australia — even while behind bars.

A major power struggle has now broken out for leadership of the gang with former president Mick Murray wanting to be reinstalled as boss four months after stepping down while awaiting trial on murder charges.

But Meehan is believed to continue to have significant support in the club, with a face-off between the two Comanchero heavyweights looming.

NSW Police and underworld sources said they were both aware of the feud between Meehan and Murray.

Sources said Mark Buddle is still very much in control of the club even though he is currently being held in a Melbourne jail after being extradited to Australia earlier this year and charged with drug importations.

“Buddle still calls the shots,” an underworld source said.

“It will be his decision at the end of the day and some in Victoria believe Mick (Murray) should never have been flicked.

“But I think most don’t want to have their president behind bars, so Meehan is their choice.”

Meehan has been dubbed the “bathrobe bikie” by some due to his penchant for wearing a dressing gown on several occasions when police have knocked on his door.

Others have begun to call him the “Instagram president” because of his love of social media.

Earlier this year Meehan shared the first public photo of Comanchero sergeant-at-arms Tarek Zahed since he was shot 10 times outside an Auburn gym in May.

Featured in photos from that night were high-profile associates including Mohamad “Almo” Alameddine.

NSW Police Criminal Groups Squad commander Grant Taylor said last week pressure had been poured on the gang, including by Meehan having his bank accounts frozen.

Sources said they wondered if this, plus the move by Meehan to get Jesse Vella – his long-time mate from when both were at the Rebels OMCG – to patch over to the Comanchero, had caused headaches with the older guard like Murray.

“There is always a target on the back of the boss of the Commos, not only from the cops, it almost comes with the job,” an underworld source said.

Mick Murray is currently on remand awaiting trial over the 2019 shooting of Mitat Rasimi.
