Two charged after crime spree machete attack in Lalor Park, South Wentworthville

Police have charged two people after an overnight crime spree that saw a car set alight, an armed fight and a car chase across Sydney’s suburbs.

A man who chased two teenagers in his car after they allegedly attempted to set fire to a house was injured in a machete attack in Sydney’s west overnight.

Two people have been charged after an overnight crime spree saw a car blaze, an armed fight and attempt to set a home on fire across Sydney’s Inner West and western suburbs.

It started when emergency services were called to a driveway on Mackenzie St in Concord West just after 10.40pm, and found a Nissan X-trail on fire.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze but the vehicle was partially destroyed.

Just before midnight, police said there was an attempt to set a home on fire at Northcote Rd, Lalor Park.

The 43-year-old homeowner allegedly saw two teenagers flee in a Toyota Prado and he chased them in his own car, following them for 10km until the two cars collided on Rawson St in South Wentworthville.

Police allege a fight erupted and the 43-year-old man, armed with a knife, was attacked with a machete and left with superficial injuries to his shoulder and leg.

An 18-year-old was also injured in the fight and suffered cuts to his face. He was taken to Westmead Hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police arrested the 43-year-old man and 17-year-old boy and they were taken to Granville Police Station.

The man was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and the teen was charged with attempt to damage property by fire/explosive with intent injure, and reckless wounding.

Both have been refused bail with the man to appear at Parramatta Local Court and the teen to appear at a children’s court on Monday.
