A second man has been charged after 10 vehicles and buildings were allegedly damaged with anti-Semitic graffiti in Sydney’s eastern suburbs last week.
Thomas Stojanovski, 19, was arrested at a home on Queen St in Arncliffe on Thursday morning by police investigating the shocking incident, which caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage.
Mohammed Farhat, 20, was also previously arrested and charged in relation to the alleged incident at Sydney International Airport as he was booked on a flight to Thailand.
At about 12.30am on November 21, emergency services raced to reports of a vehicle fire on Wellington St, Woollahra before the car in question was destroyed and a second nearby receiving minor damage.
In total, 10 vehicles along Wellington St, Tara St, Fullerton St and Ocean St as well as three buildings – including celebrity chef Matt Moran’s restaurant Chiswick – were allegedly graffitied with anti-Semitic phrases.
Police allege the graffiti included the messages “f*** Israel” and “PKK coming”, the meaning of which is not known with certainty.
The damage to the cars is believed to be in excess of $70,000, and the building damage between $20,000 and $30,000.
Stojanovski was taken to Kogarah police station and charged with 21 offences, including 14 counts of destroying or damaging property, three counts of entering land intending to commit an indictable offence, and destroying property by fire in company worth more than $5000.
He was further charged with destroying property by fire in company worth less than $2000, behaving in an offensive manner, and blackening or disguising his face intending to commit an indictable offence.
Documents tendered to Sutherland Local Court indicate police will allege Stojanovski participated in the damage or destruction of various cars in Woollahra and buildings including Chiswick and Woollahra Fire Station.
He was refused police bail to face court on Thursday afternoon, where he did not apply for bail.
It was formally refused, and the matter was adjourned to the same court on Friday.
