The tragic reason two teenage girls were out the night of the fatal Buxton crash can be revealed
Two girls killed in the horror crash said they were “popping out for ice cream” and they’d be home in 30 minutes. When they weren’t back after 40 minutes, one dad feared the worst, and went looking.

Three best friends spent the afternoon getting their nails done and finishing homework before meeting up later on an ice cream run that would prove fatal.
The heartbreaking new details emerged as families of the five teenagers who died in the Buxton car crash last Tuesday continued to piece together the five hours between school finishing and the tragic accident.
Lily Van de Putte, 14, Summer Williams, 15, Tyrese Bechard, 16, Antonio Desisto, 15, and another girl, 14, who cannot be named for legal reasons all died when a car driven by their friend Tyrell Edwards, 18, hit a tree.
The Daily Telegraph has been told the three girls left Picton High school together that afternoon and went to a local nail salon for a manicure.
Two of the friends then went back to one girl’s house where they hung out and did homework.
“They said they were going out for ice cream...and they said they would be half an hour. That was at 7pm,” a grieving parent said.
By 7.40pm when the pair wasn’t back from the nearby McDonald’s, one of the fathers became anxious and tried to call both their mobiles. When neither answered, the man got in his car and went to find them and came across the accident.
“He is in a very, very bad way that dad ... you just imagine what he saw,” the parent said.
It is understood Edwards and his mate Antonio had been together earlier in the evening when they stopped at McDonald’s in Tahmoor and met up with Tyrese, Summer, Lily and a third girl.
Friends believe Edwards was giving his five friends lifts home, as he was known to have a “big heart” and regularly ferried people around.
“Not many of our friends have cars ... Tyrell was always cool about dropping people off,” one friend told The Daily Telegraph.
Police allege Edwards was travelling at high speed on Eastern Ave just before 8pm when he lost control of his Nissan Navara ute and hit a tree.
All five passengers, none of whom were wearing seatbelts, died at the scene.
John Van de Putte whose daughter Lily died in the crash said he is struggling with the emotion of losing his daughter, and it’s compounded by not knowing exactly what happened.
“There are a lot of bits we just don’t know... I don’t know this driver, never heard of him. I don’t know what she was hanging out with him, guess I won’t ever know now, will I,” Mr Van de Putte said.
Edwards remains in custody after being charged with five counts of dangerous driving causing death.
Picton High School informed parents on Monday that the school will not be doing face-to-face classes when the five funerals are held.
“On these days, the school will move to Learning From Home as we did during the pandemic.”
Tyrese will be farewelled on Thursday followed by a funeral for Lily on Friday.
Three more funerals are planned for next week.
