The Baddest: Luxury lives of Sydney crime gang revealed

Exclusive

The first half of 2009 was a sensational period for Reynold Glover’s crew.

Glover moved into a luxury waterfront apartment in Sydney’s CBD with his girlfriend, who he had recently convinced to return to Australia from the US.

He also bought a VW Touareg for $9000 from an “Asian bloke who owns a duty free shop in Marrickville”, police documents used in court stated.

Corey George Farrell went on two overseas holidays with mates. Police also found a jetski in his backyard, the document said.

Nathan Stuart bought a $10,000 diamond engagement ring. And Willie Caldwell paid off his driving fines.

Glover was an odd fit for his new home: A boutique apartment in the block neighbouring The Toaster building at Circular Quay.

The unit looked directly at the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Luna Park and the water of Circular Quay.

Residents in the long strip of waterside buildings have included broadcaster Alan Jones, former Macquarie boss Bill Moss and countless other wealthy executives.

On July 7, 2009, the apartment was leased to a mystery person who was not Glover.

The person paid $26,482 upfront to cover six months of rent. They also paid a $5700 bond and another $4000 deposit.

Glover’s name wasn’t on the lease documents. But he lived in the apartment with his girlfriend Sasha MacKenzie until he was arrested on August 21, 2009.

Ms MacKenzie, a 31-year-old personal trainer, told police she had been living in the US until Glover convinced her to move in with him.

“I met Reynold … out and about in Sydney and we struck up a friendship, which continued when I travelled back to the USA,” Ms MacKenzie told police.

“ … He showed me sights of Sydney and we attended restaurants for dinner.

“ … When I went back to the USA we continued our friendship over the telephone,” she said.

Eventually, she agreed to come back.

“He mentioned that it was a nice apartment …,” she told police.

Ms MacKenzie arrived in Australia on August 20, 2009 — one day before Glover was arrested, having no idea of her man’s criminal exploits.

“I didn’t ask Reynold where the money had come from,” she told police.

“I was appreciative of the money and his generosity.

“He is a nice person, caring, and I had no knowledge that he was involved in any criminal activity,” she said.

“He mentioned that he had a business with some partners involved in construction, painting and labouring … I never asked or challenged him about his financial status.”

Later, police seized records from travel agents in Burwood and Earlwood that showed Farrell and four others went on a two-week jaunt to Rio de Janeiro in February 2009, which cost $14,110.

Farrell took a similar trip to Europe and the Middle East in 2009.

When police raided Farrell home, they found a jetski in the backyard, police documents used in court stated.

Inside, they also found a $3000 plasma screen TV, which was attached to the wall.

Stuart wasn’t arrested until March 23, 2010.

When police raided his Clovelly apartment, they found a $10,000 diamond ring and the accompanying receipt dated December 17, 2009.

According to State Debt Recovery Office records, Caldwell cleared some speeding and driving fine debts in 2009.

On April 17, a $5719 cash payment was made at Australia Post to cover nine fines that ranged from $3395 to $156.

On August 20, another $1227 was made to Australia Post to cover another seven infringements.
