Man bailed after allegedly running red light and killing teen in late-night crash at Padstow Heights
A teenager has died after being hit by a car in Sydney’s south west overnight.

A man has been granted bail after allegedly running a red light and killing a teenager as he walked across the road at an intersection in Sydney’s south west on Saturday.
Harrison Phillips, 26, allegedly failed to stop at the red light at the intersection of Clancy St and Davies Rd at Padstow Heights about 11pm, when he collected the 18-year-old man who was pedestrian was crossing the road.
Passing motorists who witnessed the collision stopped and commenced CPR on the teenage pedestrian until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived, however he died at the scene.
Officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command soon arrived at the scene and arrested Phillips.
He was taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory testing, while officers established a crime scene, with the assistance of specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.
After examining the scene detectives charged the driver with four offences, including dangerous driving occasioning death.
Padstow resident Mark Hall was in his home nearby when the collision took place, which he said “sounded like a car backfire”.
Phillips was also charged with negligent driving occasioning death, not stopping at stop line at red light and disobeying a right-turn-only sign.
The Illawong man faced Parramatta Local Court on Sunday, where he was granted strict conditional bail, which includes him having to report daily to NSW Police and also the putting up of a $10,000 surety.
Phillips is next due to face Parramatta Local Court on September 4. Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
