A teenager has been charged following an alleged crime spree that ended after a rooftop standoff and injuries to a police officer in Sydney’s southwest on Sunday.

Police were called to Leppington train station shortly before 2am following reports a person was allegedly seen smashing the window of two parked cars.

Officers tracked the 16-year-old to Edmondson Ave in Austral, where he allegedly fled, jumping a fence into a nearby property.

A perimeter was established by officers with the assistance of the Dog Unit and the boy was found on the roof of the property.

The teenager allegedly jumped from the roof but was bitten by a police dog.

However, he continued to evade officers by scaling a fence and entering a building.

He was eventually arrested inside the building and treated at the scene for a leg injury before being taken to Narellan Police Station.

Paramedics assessed him further before transporting him to the hospital, where he remained under guard until his release at 4pm.

A senior constable with the Dog Unit sustained a serious arm injury during the arrest and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The teenager was charged with multiple offences including damaging property; assaulting a police officer causing actual bodily harm; resisting arrest; escaping custody; unlawful entry and possessing a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and will face the Children’s Court on Monday.
