Teacher Tayla Brailey ‘hysterical’ over graphic student sex allegations

A schoolteacher accused of having unprotected sex with a student in the back of a car allegedly dissolved into “hysterics when detectives confronted her at work, a court has heard.

Sydney schoolteacher Tayla Brailey was allegedly “hysterical” and said “I’m going to jail aren’t I” when police confronted her with accusations she had unprotected sex with a student in the back of a car, a court has heard.

The Daily Telegraph has obtained bombshell new details about the police allegations against the 30-year-old newlywed, who is facing two child sex charges over her alleged sexual affair with a 17-year-old student under her care.

Among the details heard in court are allegations that Brailey sent the teen videos of herself masturbating, invited him to her North Wollongong and attended a pharmacy to purchase the morning after pill immediately after an alleged sexual encounter.

Court documents reveal when detectives arrived at Lurnea High, where she works, Brailey became hysterical and allegedly said “I am going to jail aren’t I? I’m going to lose my family, my husband, my job”.

The educator — who also goes by her married name Tayla Rizza — was arrested at the school on Tuesday and remanded in custody overnight before being granted conditional bail in Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday.

Brailey, who was supported in court by her parents and husband, dropped her face into her hands and cried when her lawyer Patrick Schmidt said she was potentially facing years behind bars if found guilty over the grave allegations.

According to a set of police facts tendered to the court, the student added Brailey as a friend on Snapchat in early July and the pair began communicating — initially just “general conversation — before the talk allegedly turned sexual.

“The accused [allegedly] sent a number of photographs and videos of herself both naked and while she was masturbating herself,” the police facts state.

“The victim also returned a number of photographs and videos of himself.”

The court heard Brailey allegedly said to the teen not to tell anyone about their conversations or she would get in trouble.

According to court documents, Brailey invited the teen to her North Wollongong home in mid-July.

It is alleged the pair began kissing before moving to a spare room upstairs, where she masturbated him.

A friend who had accompanied the teen to the house allegedly walked in on the sexual encounter at one stage.

Police will allege about a week later, Brailey was on duty at school when she contacted the boy and said she was free for about an hour and they should meet off-site.

It is alleged the boy wagged school and met Brailey in a secluded location a short distance away.

The pair allegedly had unprotected sex in the back of a car.

Police allege Brailey then attended a nearby pharmacy and purchased the contraceptive “morning after pill”, paying for the medication with her bank card.

Police will allege communication between the pair ceased until Brailey allegedly contacted the teen and accused him of telling others about their sexual encounters.

The teen denied doing so.

When subsequently interviewed by police, the boy said he felt like he “had to” send intimate images of himself to Brailey in order to keep her “happy”.

A review of Brailey’s mobile phone allegedly uncovered hidden videos, which identified her participating in sexual acts with the teen via FaceTime video.

It is further alleged Brailey admitted to police that she had been speaking to three students on social media apps.

While Brailey has only been charged over her alleged conduct towards the one student, police revealed the matter is still under investigation and “it is likely further charges will be laid as [alleged] victims are spoken to and identified”.

In March this year Brailey was a contestant on Seven Network quiz show The 1% Club, which is hosted by comedian Jim Jefferies.

In a statement, a Department of Education spokesman confirmed Brailey had been suspended without pay and support was being provided to students and staff at the school.

The matter will return to court later this year.

Video showing the Sydney schoolteacher dancing while scantily clad has also emerged on social media.

Brailey stands charged with aggravated sexual assault of a victim under authority, sexual intercourse without consent with a child under authority, and sexually touching a child under her authority.

A steamy video of the teacher tagged “Miss Brailey” dancing in a brief black outfit and high heels is now circulating on TikTok, after being posted on a Snapchat account called Lurnea Playhouse.

On Wednesday, the court heard Brailey was allegedly communicating with three students - one of whom is the complainant in the sexual abuse charges - on social media prior to her arrest.

She is not charged with any offences related to the other two children.

As part of her bail conditions, she is now forbidden to use social media at all.

At Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday, police prosecutor Sgt Hillery told Magistrate Imad Abdul-Karim there was a strong case against Brailey.

“Spontaneous admissions were made by the defendant when spoken to by police,” Sgt Hillery said.

“The defendant, when spoken to, allowed access to her mobile phone and through that the prosecution and detectives obtained further material which assists the case.”
