Two teenagers have died, and three others are in hospital after a single-vehicle crash in a stolen car in the state’s north.
The boys, believed to be aged 14 and 15, were driving around Jubullum Mission, near Tabulam in a stolen Volkswagen Tiguan when the driver lost control and hit a tree.
The two boys were declared deceased at the scene.
They are yet to be formally identified.
Three other teenagers were taken to hospital, with one in a serious condition while the two others are being treated for minor injuries.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Scott Tanner said crashes like these had a ripple effect through the community and tear families apart.
“There are two sides to the coin. Protecting the victims in the community whose lives are turned upside down by these serious crimes when their homes are broken into and cars stolen versus the risk transferral when the young offenders are behind the wheel of a car, speeding with limited experience,” Mr Tanner said.
“That leads to devastating consequences to themselves and other road users, devastating families and communities.”
Plains Station Road remains closed in both directions with local traffic diversions in place.
Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
