Sydney mum charged over car found at Hamzy boss’s house

A Sydney mum was charged when a car in her name was used in a vicious bashing before being found at the house of underworld figure Ibrahem Hamze.

The Hamzy v Alameddine Sydney gang war

A Sydney mum was charged by police when a car registered in her name was used in a vicious bashing before being found at underworld figure Ibrahem Hamze’s house.

The unusual legal case comes as NSW Police allege crime gangs are exploiting their unwitting associates who are previously unknown to authorities for a range of activities, including registering vehicles in their names so senior members can evade detection.

According to a police fact sheet tendered to court, a man drove a Toyota Corolla – registered to 37-year-old mum Aysha Kalal – to a car wash in Granville when a melee broke out between four men in November 2021.

Multiple witnesses told triple-0 operators that a gun was produced during the fracas.

A short time later police found the Corolla at Hamze’s house in Auburn.

The following day police went to Kalal’s Greystanes home and asked her to disclose the name and residential address of the driver of the Corolla at the time of the bashing.

Kalal, who was legally represented in court by high profile barrister Talal Krayem, said: “I really don’t know who was driving it … it’s still in my name …. I don’t know who was the driver”.

The court documents state Kalal told police she might be able to find out who the driver was and so, in fairness to her, officers allowed her another 24 hours for that person to be identified.

When they returned to her home the next day she said: “I’m still waiting for them to give me names. I’ve been trying my best”.

During the conversation Kalal and her partner Abdul Hallak - who is not accused of any wrongdoing - claimed they had sold the Corolla “some months earlier” to Bilal Hamze, who was fatally shot after he left Japanese restaurant Kid Kyoto in Sydney’s CBD in a highly publicised incident in June 2021.

However, the couple could not produce any evidence of such a sale, the fact sheet states.

Police phoned Kalal in December 2021 and she said she had been provided the name of a woman and that she was instructed to nominate that person as the driver.

But she said she was not told the woman’s date of birth or her address, according to the documents.

Kalal confirmed to police she was unable to nominate a driver at the time of the car wash bashing.

Police charged her with not disclosing the identity of a driver.

Kalal faced Parramatta Local Court where she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a 12-month conditional release order without a conviction.

Ibrahem Hamze is behind bars on remand after being charged in January over his alleged role in an unrelated shooting.
