A Sydney runway model “gasped” and told officers: “I forgot about that!” when caught with cocaine on Newtown’s party strip.
Vali Clarke, who has walked the runway for David Jones, The Iconic and Alice McCall, pleaded guilty to possessing an illegal substance in Newtown Local Court on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old “influencer” was sentenced to a 12-month court order, with a condition to complete an addiction recovery program.
The agreed fact sheet states Ms Clarke was overheard on King St talking about buying drugs for her friends by two officers patrolling the inner west night-life strip, early Saturday morning, on April 24.
The officers approached her about half an hour later at 1.40am and asked if she had just bought drugs.
Ms Clarke responded in a “chatty, animated” way: “You've come too early, we are literally just down here to buy them”, the agreed facts state.
Her friend told the police: “You’re too late, I’ve already had my bag”.
The officers did not take their word for it, and searched Ms Clarke’s bag, finding cocaine in her purse.
The agreed fact sheet says Ms Clarke “gasped” and “spontaneously” stated, ‘I forgot about that!’, and told police the drugs were from two weeks ago.
“Both her and her friend were extremely chatty/animated. Given their admissions and their behaviour, police had little doubt they were under the influence,” the court documents show.
Ms Clarke would not be convicted for the possession unless she committed another offence before the court order ended on May 31, 2022.
The first-time offender was ordered to meet with a psychologist when advised and complete the SMART recovery addiction program.
Ms Clarke‘s Star Now profile says she is an “actor, extra, model and dancer” and a separate talent website calls her an ”influencer and blogger”.
