A 20-year-old man has been caught by Sex Crime Squad detectives allegedly with a terabyte of pornographic material on his phone — most of which is child abuse material.
Strike Force Glandore detectives, backed by the Australian Federal Police, executed a search warrant at an Epping home on Thursday and allegedly located an amount of data that is the equivalent to 250,000 photos or 500 hours of HD video.
The man was arrested and taken to Gladesville Police Station where he was charged with two counts of use carriage service to access child abuse material.
Strike Force Glandore was established by State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad Child internet Exploitation Unit to investigate the online distribution, supply and access of child abuse material.
Squad commander Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty said that detectives will continue to hunt those individuals who share this kind of material online.
“I want the public to understand how much child abuse material detectives are locating during these investigations,” she said.
“These are images of children, some of the most vulnerable people in our community, being sexually abused.
“My detectives will continue to diligently sift through these images to identify and rescue the children in these images and videos and stop the abuse.”
Since last National Child Protection Week the State Crime Command’s Child Exploitation Unit’s Victim ID team have identified 17 children who have been sexually abused to produce child abuse material.
Investigations under Strike Force Glandore continue.
