Social media ban for influencer after alleged threat to release woman's intimate pics

A Sydney influencer has been banned from using Instagram as part of his bail, after he allegedly threatened to release a woman’s intimate photos.

A Sydney influencer who regularly posts gym selfies and shirtless pictures has been restrained by a court from using Instagram after he allegedly threatened to post intimate photos of a woman online.

Owner of NU Healthy Cafe in Bondi, Lucas Azzopardi, was charged with threatening to distribute intimate an image last week after police allege he texted a woman the threat in a heated exchange.

According to court documents, the woman allegedly responded back with “you’re an idiot” – due to the fact he’d put the alleged threat in writing over text.

He faced Waverley Local Court last week, where he was granted bail under the conditions he not use any social media.

However, Azzopardi landed himself back in custody on Friday night — less than seven days after he was granted bail — after posting a picture of himself on his Instagram story.

His lawyer Ahmed Dib appeared on his behalf in front of Magistrate Darryl Pearce at Parramatta Local Court on the weekend, where he argued Azzopardi needed to use Instagram for his job.

“He runs a nutrition cafe and uses social media to post pictures of the business and customers,” he said.

“He also has a public, personal profile which he makes money from.”

Azzopardi has more than 13,000 Instagram followers and regularly posts paid advertisements and endorsements to his page.

Mr Dib argued his client could stay off all social media, bar Instagram, but Magistrate Pearce refused, saying: “I’m against you on that.”

The court also heard Azzopardi was last year sentenced to a two-year community corrections after he was convicted of supplying more than 400 individual amounts of testosterone.

He was released from remand cells at Surry Hills Police Station after his hearing on Saturday morning.

As part of his bail he is not to use any social media, encrypted messaging service or contact the woman.
