An alleged associate of the Alameddine crime clan is believed to have been the intended target of a wild drive-by shooting, in which more than 30 shots fired were fired from a high-powered gun on a suburban street in Sydney’s west.

The man, who is known to police for his alleged links to the infamous crime clan, was not home when a gunman opened fire about 12.40am on Sunday.

Instead, inside were two women and a sleeping child, with the trio lucky to survive as bullets were sprayed into the front of the home and multiple cars outside.

The latest drive-by shooting, on Hunt St at Guildford West, sparked a strong police response on Sunday morning, with a crime scene set up and forensic officers joining tactical cops at the scene.

CCTV of the attack showed a white Mazda hatchback pulling up outside the house with its headlights on, as shots were fired in the home.

NSW Police Detective Inspector Ricki Lindner said those who were inside at the time had been left “quite rattled” by the incident.

“It’s not a nice thing to have occurred to them and it’s outrageous that this sort of thing is happening in the community,” Det Insp Lindner said.

“It’s brazen, it’s blatant, it’s dangerous and the community and police won’t tolerate it.

“Police take this sort of behaviour, this brazen behaviour, very seriously.”

The man police believe was the intended target is understood to currently be living offshore.

However, before he went abroad, he was the owner of a Merrylands barber shop targeted in a spate of firebombings – including on back-to-back nights – in May this year.

CCTV captured hooded figures attempting to set the salon alight, with one individual setting his arm on fire when the blaze he had started with a jerry can got out of control.

Police have since charged a 16-year-old boy over the alleged arson attack.

Investigators who arrived at the scene of the Guildford West shooting were told a white hatchback had been seen fleeing the area.

Roughly two-and-a-half hours after the shooting had occurred, emergency services were called to nearby James St, where police found a white hatchback, well alight.

A crime scene was established as the white Mazda was towed away for forensic examination, leaving only charred remains and melted glass in the driveway of a home.

Where the car had been set alight the ground was scorched, with ash, rubble and car debris left for officers to sift through.

Black tyre marks had also been singed onto the pavement.
