A convicted child sex offender allegedly worked as a swim teacher for children as young as three while continuing to access child abuse material, police will allege.
St George detectives arrested Ruize Wang, 21, in Newcastle on Wednesday morning and charged him with 25 offences over the grim new allegations.
The one-time trainee chef from South Hurstville became a registered child sex offender in March 2023 after he was convicted of possessing more than 6000 child abuse images and videos.
Documents tendered to Newcastle Local Court detail new claims he was working as a children’s swim teacher while continuing to engage with child abuse material.
“Between November 26, 2023 and February 2, 2024 at Sydney Olympic Park, Ruize Wang did engage in child-related work by conducting swim lessons after being informed he was barred from working with children,” police state in a court attendance notice.
Police have charged Wang with 12 counts of failing to comply with his child protection register reporting obligations during that period. Overall, Wang allegedly interacted with children aged between three and 12 in breach of his obligations 59 times in Sydney Olympic Park, Macquarie Park, Zetland and Eastgardens.
He is further charged with possessing or controlling child abuse material on a computer or data storage device 10 times between January 2022 and November 2023.
Another charge pertains to allegations Wang shared a link which permitted others access to child abuse material as recently as March this year.
Wang is also charged with knowingly dealing with $31,112.14 which is believed to be the proceeds of crime.
He did not appear or seek bail at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, and it was formally refused before his matters were adjourned to Sutherland Local Court on September 3.
Wang’s original child abuse material charges have been called up for his next court date as the new charges constitute an alleged breach of a three-year community correction order he received in August 2023.
The sentence was handed down after he successfully appealed a 20-month full-time jail term imposed in the local court.
