Second body found in submerged car in NSW holiday town

A man was found dead in a submerged car in a popular NSW holiday town - but now police have found a second body in the wreck.

Police have found two bodies in a submerged car at the end of a boat ramp in a popular NSW tourist town.

The grisly discovery was made in the early hours of Sunday morning after police were called to Soldier Point boat ramp in Port Stephens, just north of Newcastle.

NSW Police discovered a white hatchback completely beneath the water at about 4:30am with an unidentified man dead inside.

A crime scene was set up with the SES, police divers and other specialists working to recover the car from the ocean.

The car was pulled from the water just after lunch then NSW Police revealed a woman’s body was also located inside.

They have yet to be formally identified and it’s not yet known exactly what happened.

But an investigation is now underway and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
