A schoolboy who died after he was allegedly struck by a bus in front of his classmates has been remembered as a fine young man with a “cheeky smile”.

Cameron Millen, 14, was waiting to be collected from school by his mother Michelle, last Wednesday afternoon, when a bus allegedly mounted the kerb and hit him.

Macarthur Anglican School headmaster Dr David Nockles said Cameron’s death had left a profound sense of grief throughout the school.

In a lengthy tribute to the Year 9 student, Dr Nockles remembered Cameron as a talented sportsman and a great friend to many.

“Cameron had an infectious smile that could light up a room,” Dr Nockles said.

“ Those who taught Cameron, or were involved in activities outside the classroom, have spoken about his warm and friendly nature.

“He possessed a healthy dose of courageous determination, which many staff and students found endearing. He could produce a wry cheeky smile on demand, often managing to reassure teachers he was focused and on task in class,” he said.

Police said Cameron was standing in a pick up line on the school’s grounds at Cobbity, about 3pm, when a bus allegedly lost control and hit him.

Dozens of witnesses, including Cameron’s friends and teachers, ran to his aid and did everything they could to help him until paramedics arrived.

While funeral plans were being made to farewell Cameron, Dr Nockles said students were continuing to recount stories of their friend.

“Cameron weaving his magic each recess and lunch has been a focus for many students as they reflect and recount stories of this fine young man of character doing what he loved most,” Dr Nockles said.

“Our deep heartfelt condolences and prayers go to Cameron’s mother, Michelle, father, Geoffrey, and older brother, Jared, as well as his wider family and friends.”

A funeral service will be held later this week.
