Video has captured NSW Police using road spikes to stop and arrest a man behind the wheel of a speeding car in a dramatic pursuit through the Central Coast on Saturday.
About 2.15pm, police said officers were on patrol in Wyee when they tried to pull over a white SUV.
The driver failed to stop, and the officers gave chase, with other motorists sharing footage of
several police cars pursuing the car through Budgewoi towards the Lake Munmorah area.
A NSW Police spokesman said the chase continued “through a number of suburbs in the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie area”
Footage of the chase posted on social media shows the Jeep driving along the highway near the intersection of Flowers Rd at Catherine Hill Bay, before driving over a row of road spikes and slowing.
The video shows the four-wheel-drive continuing to drive along the road with a fleet of police vehicles following closely.
Another clip of the incident shows the Jeep stopped further along the highway and surrounded by a large number of police cars, with officers seen running between the vehicles.
NSW Police said the vehicle had crashed a short time after running over the spikes.
“The driver, a 46-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station, where inquiries are ongoing,” a spokesman said.
