Rental car collides with police vehicle following high speed pursuit in Granville South

A driver behind the wheel of a hired car has crashed into a police car after leading officers on a frantic, high speed chase through the backstreets of western Sydney. SEE THE VIDEO.

A driver behind the wheel of a hired hatchback has allegedly crashed into a police car after leading officers on a frantic, high speed chase through the backstreets of western Sydney.

Officers in a marked police car were patrolling Blaxcell St in South Granville on Thursday morning about 10:30am, when they attempted to pull over a white Toyota GoGet hatchback.

The driver of the vehicle stopped before reversing his car into the police car before quickly driving away from the scene, according to police.

Police officers then initiated a pursuit, chasing the white car through to Rawson Rd in Granville, about four minutes away from where the collision occurred. It was here they terminated their pursuit.

Footage captured at the scene shows the white GoGet rental vehicle, containing large dents on the front and left hand side and also a flat tyre.

The driver was seen stopping the car on the side of residential Rawson Rd, before jumping out and attempting to flee the scene, only to realise he had left the handbrake off and the car was rolling forward. Pic Supplied.

Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made in relation to the incident and the driver remains on the run.

Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command have commenced an investigation into the incident and as inquiries continue, anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
