Port Stephens-Hunter police allegedly seize cannabis plants and leaf from Stroud home

It was an unrelated traffic investigation which first led police to the Stroud home. And it was what they saw inside a shed which prompted further investigation.

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

It was the shed which first caught the eye of the police officers who had arrived at the Stroud property at 8am to investigate an unrelated traffic matter.

And then it was the contents of the shed.

Inside, they saw several cannabis plants before speaking with a 46-year-old man.

Police said the man consented to the officers searching the rest of the home.

In all, police allegedly found 39 cannabis plants of varying maturity and about 3kg of cannabis leaf.

By 3pm on Wednesday, a 26-year-old man had walked into Raymond Terrace police station and was formally arrested over the crop.

He was later charged with cultivate a prohibited plant and possessing a prohibited drug and granted conditional bail to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on February 7.

The plants and leaf were seized by police and will be destroyed.
