A major air and sea search is underway after a group of fishers were swept off Port Stephens, with one person unaccounted for.
Emergency service sources said debris from a group of fishers washed up on rocks and three people had to be rescued.
One man, aged in his 50s, was treated for injuries to his upper torso while two women have been treated at the scene for minor injuries.
NSW Police confirmed they received an emergency call at 9.20am with four people in distress in the water.
Two men and a woman have been rescued and are being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, a police spokeswoman said.
The search continues for another person believed to be in the water.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said multiple crews responded to calls for help at Fingal Bay around 9.30am.
The Westpac LifeSaver Rescue helicopter is currently on scene.
Witnesses said debris from a destroyed boat was washed up on rocks, making it a “scary scene”.
A command post has been set up at Fingal Bay surf club.
