Police have opened fire in a Woolworths car park in Neutral Bay during a dramatic arrest.
About 4.20pm on Monday officers were conducting an operation when they attempted to stop a vehicle in the Woolworths carpark on Grosvenor Lane.
It was then the vehicle allegedly charged directly at the officers, before police discharged a firearm.
The vehicle’s windscreen was damaged, before the car ricocheted into a bollard and came to a grinding halt.
A local resident, who did not wish to be named, was having a nap at an apartment next to the carpark when he heard gunshots.
“I heard shots. I got up and grabbed my phone. I heard two shots then I heard screeching of the tyres, banging and “get out of the car,” it sounded like they banged on the bonnet,” he told The Daily Telegraph.
“Then I heard “is there a gun? Has he got a gun? By that time I already rang North Sydney Police Station,” he said.
Two men were arrested at the scene and will be taken to Chatswood Police Station, where charges are expected to be laid.
No one was physically injured during the incident.
Inquiries are continuing.
