The parents of Mostafa Baluch, an alleged drug dealer accused of trying to flee Sydney, will hang on to their palatial home, at least until well into next year, despite police trying to seize the multimillion dollar property.
He was allegedly apprehended hiding in the boot of a car, on the back of a truck, that was headed north into Queensland last November.
Baluch’s alleged escape attempt triggered a historic legal battle against his parents because they had put their $4m home up as surety before he allegedly left them out to dry.
The bail forfeiture, which may see the Baluchs lose their Bayview home, was set down for a hearing this week in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court.
But their solicitor told the magistrate that a barrister was not available for the rest of the year.
The court agreed to push back the hearing until March 2023, meaning the Baluchs will hang on to the property at least until then.
The Baluchs are well-respected restaurateurs on the northern beaches with popular Lucky and Pep’s pizzeria and there is no suggestion they were aware of their son’s alleged drug dealing.
Baluch remains in prison ahead of his next court appearance next Wednesday.
