The son of the slain grandmother who was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in Sydney’s southwest has been arrested by police.
Police arrested two men during a vehicle stop on Copperfield Dr in Ambarvale about 8am this morning.
Both men - aged 34 and 32 - were taken to Campbelltown Police Station where they are assisting with inquiries.
Neither man has been charged although it is understood the 34-year-old man, James Shaine Dowd, is the son of Kim Duncan who was hit and killed by a piece of shrapnel when her family home was targeted by multiple gunshots about 11pm on Monday.
The Daily Telegraph does not suggest Dowd was involved with the shooting.
Distressed neighbours said at least five shots were fired at the Dickens Rd house.
Moments later, they heard screams from Dowd calling for help.
Police sources told The Daily Telegraph on Tuesday Ms Duncan wasn’t the intended target of the shooting, but the gunmen were sending a “warning” to someone in the house.
Campbelltown Police Superintendent Grant Healey told media it was a “targeted attack” with early reports indicating “three people got out of a dark coloured sedan before firing several shots at the house and then leaving”.
Supt Healey said a 34-year-old man, 21-year-old woman were inside the home alongside Ms Duncan at the time of the shooting.
