A Kariong resident has described the moment a man suffering a stab wound to the right side of his stomach banged on his door “searching for help”.
The resident of James Russell Drive, Lawrence, was in his home office on Thursday night when he heard someone knocking on his door.
“I opened the door and found a stranger and he said ‘I’ve been stabbed, I need help’,” he said.
“I had my wife and kids call triple-0 and I helped calm him down and grabbed some first aid to help him stop the bleeding.”
Lawrence said the stabbed man paced back and forth and was “desperate”, saying he had been involved in a road rage attack.
He also said there was “so much bleeding”.
“The ambulance and police arrived very fast, about three to five minutes,” he said.
The man remains in a critical condition at Gosford Hospital as police appeal for information over the stabbing which occurred after a road rage incident.
Emergency services were called to James Russell Dr at Kariong after reports of an assault about 7.50pm.
Multiple crime scenes were established by police who were told a 42-year-old man was assaulted by two men following a road rage incident at Milyerra Rd, Kariong.
One of the men produced a knife during the altercation and stabbed the man in the abdomen.
The two men left in what police believe is a bright blue sedan, possibly a Holden Commodore, with a red stripe at the rear of the vehicle.
The injured man drove to a nearby street, found a home with lights on before he collapsed at the front door.
Lawrence said he wasn’t sure where the incident happened but believed it may have been around the corner at a community hall and tennis court.
“He was desperate,” he said.
“I think he saw our house had lots of lights on and he was searching for help.”
The resident said he had never had to perform first aid before.
“It was the first time in my life,” he said.
Brisbane Waters Police acting crime manager Insp Evan Davies said it was understood the attack happened on Milyerra Rd where the victim’s silver Ford Fiesta and the alleged attackers’ blue Holden Commodore had stopped.
Insp Davies said the victim was attacked while in the driver’s seat.
“The initial indication is that his window was down and the attack has taken place with him inside the car,” he said.
He thanked locals that provided assistance to the victim.
As inquiries continue, police are seeking any information from the public or dashcam vision in the vicinity of the M1 or James Russell Dr at Kariong.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
