NSW Police investigating the disappearance of mum Amber Haigh almost 20 years ago have increased the reward for information to $1 million.
Miss Haigh, 19, was reported missing on June 19, 2002 after she failed to return to her Kingsvale home.
Miss Haigh had been living at the home in the state’s southwest with her six-month-old son and another married couple.
On June 5, 2002 - two weeks before she was reported missing - Miss Haigh was dropped off at Campbelltown train station by the married couple, to visit her father who was unwell in hospital at Mt Druitt.
At around 8.45pm that evening, money was withdrawn from Miss Haigh’s bank account at a Commonwealth Bank ATM on Queens Street in Campbelltown.
While there have been extensive investigations over the past 20 years into the 19-year old’s disappearance, the circumstances are still undetermined.
A coronial inquest in 2011 found that Amber had died as a result of homicide or misadventure in June 2002, however in 2020 this decision was formally reviewed and the case was re-investigated by detectives attached to Strike Force Villamar II.
Police are appealing to the community and those within the Campbelltown area to share information to assist detectives with their investigation.
Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, says he believes Miss Haigh’s disappearance was a result of foul play and has pleaded for people with any leads or information to come forward to help provide her family with answers.
“Amber’s disappearance and suspected death robbed a young boy of a mother’s presence in his life, and nobody has ever been held accountable for that,” Det Supt Doherty.
“We believe that Amber met with foul play but, to date, we’ve been unable to find enough evidence to prosecute anyone over her disappearance.”
In 2007, the reward for information on Miss Haigh’s disappearance was posted at $100,000.
Anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Villamar II investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
