An investigation is under way into another possible shooting in Sydney’s western suburbs overnight.
A man called triple-0 about 7.30pm on Saturday and asked for an ambulance, claiming to have been shot in the leg.
But when police arrived at a park on Kalang Road in Edensor Park, they failed to find him – or anything to suggest a shooting had occurred.
Detectives and plain-clothed officers from the city’s southwest were seen scanning the area with torches, while an ambulance that arrived at the scene soon left without any patient to transport.
In a statement, a NSW Police spokesperson said the man had asked to borrow a woman’s phone and then called triple-0 – with other witnesses reportedly seeing an individual “limping” in a street near where the call came from.
“About 7.30pm [Saturday] night, emergency services responded to reports that a man had been shot at a park along Kalang Road, Edensor Park,” the statement read.
“Officers from Fairfield Police Area Command were informed that a man approached a woman asking to use her mobile phone where he rung Triple 0 requesting an ambulance stating he had been shot in the leg.
“The man was last seen limping west along Boomerang Road.
“An extensive search of the area failed to locate anything of interest.”
Police are urging anyone who may have knowledge of this incident or were in the area at the time who has any available dashcam footage to contact Fairfield Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
