NSW Police charge man over alleged anti-Semitic comments, assault in Vaucluse

A man has been charged after he allegedly made anti-Semitic comments and assaulted a person who was attempting to remove stickers he had put up in Sydney’s east.

A man has been charged after he allegedly made anti-Semitic comments and assaulted a person who was attempting to remove stickers he had put up in Sydney’s east.

Police were called to the incident on Old South Head Rd in Vaucluse about 10.45am on Tuesday.

Officers were told the alleged assailant had assaulted a younger man before leaving the scene on a bus.

Police subsequently stopped a bus at the intersection of New South Head Rd and Strickland St, arresting a 62-year-old man who was allegedly in possession of wire cutters.

He was taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged with using an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intimidation, and affixing a placard or paper on premises without consent.

Police refused the man bail ahead of his appearance in Waverley Local Court on Wednesday.
