NSW Police have charged a man after a home in Berala was broken into overnight and the floor doused in petrol.
Police responded to calls of a home invasion on Kingsland Road at 9.30pm on Monday.
Auburn police launched an investigation and arrested a 31-year-old man close to the scene after he is alleged to have fled.
No one was injured at the property.
The homeowners told police the man apprehended was known to them.
The suspect has been charged with break and enter, property damage with intent to injure, attempted property damage, and intimidation.
He will appear at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday.
In a separate incident, a car was set alight at Yennora on Monday night.
At 10pm on New Year’s Day, police were called to the Pine Road bike track where a van had been burned out.
There was no one inside, and no injuries, with Fire and Rescue NSW extinguishing the blaze quickly.
Cumberland Police established a crime scene, with the investigation ongoing.
