NSW food delivery rider with 385 demerit points stole scooter and is wanted by police

NSW Police have issued an arrest warrant for a rogue food delivery driver who racked up 385 demerit points and stole a motorbike from a city rental company.

A rogue food delivery rider who racked up 385 demerit points also stole a motorbike from a city rental company and ripped off the tracking device so it couldn’t be found.

The French national’s defiant behaviour took another twist late last month when a court convicted him of larceny and destroying property, but it was all done in his absence when he repeatedly failed to turn up.

An arrest warrant has now been issued for the 23-year-old French fugitive, but NSW Police haven’t been able to find him because he keeps changing addresses.

The delivery rider’s total disregard for the law was revealed in The Daily Telegraph in May when police said he had accumulated 240 demerit points since the start of the year by driving dangerously on Sydney roads.

A police source said his tally was now up to 385 demerit points.

In a staggering loophole in the law, the rider would show police an international driver’s license each time he was pulled over for a driving offence. Infringement notices were then posted to the address he registered when he arrived in the country late last year, but has since moved on from.

And to top off the absurdity of the situation, police said Transport NSW oversee the demerit point system and keep the tally, not them.

The elusive Frenchman was due in the Downing Centre Local Court to face the music this week after he rented a motorbike from City Car King at Alexandria on March 21, and failed to return it.

While he had the bike, he smashed a tracking device on it, worth $400, so it couldn’t be found.

It was on that black Yamaha scooter that police claim he racked up the hundreds of demerit points while working for various food delivery companies.

A staff member at the rental business said he could not recall dealing with the Frenchman because “we have about 50 of these cases where people steal bikes”.

“They come in here, some people don’t even try and rent, they just steal a bike and go … we give all the information to police,” the staff member said.

At the Waterloo address listed on court papers for the delivery rider, flatmates pretended they did not speak English but later said the man had “gone to police”.

However, police said the man had not turned up to report for bail as required.

Police said the man’s shocking driving record was a matter for Transport NSW who oversee the demerit point system.

A Transport for NSW spokesman said the agency was “actively managing the case” alongside police and Revenue NSW.

The Frenchman’s outrageous record was discovered when NSW Police highway patrol officers, who had allegedly repeatedly given the man infringement notices for driving offences, applied to Transport NSW for his full record.
