NRL star’s brother Troy Xerri released from prison after fatal crash

Sydney NRL star Bronson Xerri has shared his joy on TikTok as his brother walked out of jail at the end of a sentence for losing control of his car and killing a mum-of-three in a crash.

The brother of NRL player Bronson Xerri walked from prison on parole on Friday, after a horror crash which killed a mum-of-three.

Troy Xerri was released from Macquarie Correctional Centre on Friday, after spending two years and four months in jail following the death of Joanne Duke.

He was met at the gates by his brother Bronson, who has just commenced playing with the Bulldogs after a four-year doping ban.

Bronson posted the release on social media, showing his brother walking from the prison with the caption stating “three years done and dusted, brother is home.”

Ms Duke was just months away from becoming a grandmother when she was killed in the crash at Eastwood on November 11, 2019.

She was driving along Blaxland Road as she had many times, when Troy Xerri lost control of his Toyota HiLux ute and crossed onto the wrong side of the road, ploughing head first into her vehicle.

Ms Duke died at the scene after suffering catastrophic injuries, while Troy’s male passenger, Michael Nader was seriously injured and required surgery.

Troy pleaded guilty to dangerous driving occasioning death and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, while a judge found him guilty of driving furiously causing bodily harm during a trial last year.

He was sentenced to three years and nine months jail earlier this year, with a non-parole period of two years and four months.

At the time of his sentencing, Ms Duke’s husband Michael said he was “disgusted” with the sentence handed down to his wife’s killer.
