An officer at NSW’s most secure prison has been hospitalised after he was slashed by an inmate responsible for the murder of a Sydney sex worker.
Mert Ney, who is being held at Goulburn Supermax after fatally stabbing sex worker Michaela Dunn, 24 in 2019, attacked the officer about 10am this morning.
It’s understood he slashed the officer across the chest with a razor blade, causing “non-life threatening injuries”.
The officer was rushed to hospital and is undergoing treatment.
It’s understood police have taken over the investigation of the incident.
The Daily Telegraph understands Ney has been a problematic inmate, lighting his cell on fire in 2022 and assaulting another Supermax officer in 2021.
He was also convicted of assaulting another inmate at Parklea jail in 2021.
Ney was sentenced to 30-years non-parole for Ms Dunn’s murder, first eligible for release in 2050.
A Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman said the inmate “used a gaol-made weapon” to assault an officer inside the High Risk Management Unit at Goulburn Correctional Centre.
“Responding officers immediately secured the weapon and the officer has received hospital treatment for non-life threatening injuries,” she said.
“NSW Police attended the correctional centre and their inquiries continue.”
