Arrest over Wentworthville gym shooting

A once promising rugby league player has been charged with trying to shoot dead a UFC fighter at a busy Sydney gym earlier this year.

Noah Touma, 20, allegedly dressed as a food delivery rider and with his hi-vis and helmet still on, ran up to the outside of Top Team Gym at Wentworthville and opened fire.

NSW Police allege his target was Suman Mokhtarian, one of the gym’s owners and a former fighter in the UFC.

Raptor Squad officers arrested Touma at his home in Campsie about 9am on Wednesday and charged him with ten offences, including shoot at with intent to murder.

In his teens Touma was a development player with the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs, smiling happily as he signed a junior contract.

But police allege in recent years he had developed links to organised crime networks, resulting in him taking up the contract killing attempt on Mokhtarian.

On the night of February 20, 2024, police allege Touma was assisted in carrying out the shooting by Usman Chami, who has previously been charged by police and remains in custody.

Raptor Squad officers have charged a second man, Noah Touma, with intent to murder under Strike Force Berallier following a public place shooting outside a Wentworthville gym earlier this year.

Police alleged Chami was standing with Mokhtarian outside the gym and acted as a “spotter”, while Touma prepared nearby.

Touma allegedly pulled up outside the gym on his scooter at 7.47pm and walked up towards Mokhtarian, before firing a single shot at his target from close range.

The first shot not only missed but resulted in his gun jamming, giving Mokhtarian and some of the other 30 gym goers a chance to run.

As the UFC fighter ran through the gym Touma allegedly followed and with his gun working again fired three more shots, two hitting a brick wall and one piercing a boxing bag.

No one inside the gym was injured.

Touma is due to face Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.
