Exclusive: A man accused of murdering a young Sydney woman during a drug-fuelled sex encounter has killed himself in prison before he faced trial.

Dennis James Pietrobon was found dead in his cell in Parklea jail yesterday. Police say he murdered Nicole Cartwright, 32, and then dumped her body in a park in Hunters Hill in 2018.

The 51-year-old and Ms Cartwright had met on social media through a dating app and agreed to meet up for a ‘pump and play’’ sex session in September that year.

Two days after the meeting the 32-year-old woman’s body was found wrapped in a bed sheet and dumped in a children’s park in Hunters Hill with her hands bound.

It emerged during a hearing after Pietrobon was charged that the pair had consumed meth before he turned violent and bashed her.

Pietrobon’s fingerprints were found on the tape and his DNA on a garbage bin police say used to transport her body after he had put her in the boot of his Mercedes to where she was eventually found.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.

A statement relesed on behalf of the Pietrobon family said: “The cause of death is yet to be confirmed and they await the results of the autopsy and subsequent coroner’s report. They ask the media to respect their privacy at this difficult time.”
