Newcastle City police charged youth over Bar Beach postie robbery and Cooks Hill knife hold-up

A teenager is alleged to have stolen the electric three-wheel vehicle off a postie during the street robbery at Bar Beach.

A teenager has been charged with robbing a postie of his three-wheel vehicle and slashing a woman on her arm during two robberies in inner Newcastle.

The youth, 16, was arrested in a Cooks Hill unit by Newcastle City proactive crime team about 1.30pm on Monday following a three-week investigation into the alleged postie robbery.

Police will allege the postie, 42, was delivering mail on Nickson St at Bar Beach about 10am on January 10 when he was allegedly bashed and had his machine stolen.

The postie and a witness searched nearby streets before seeing the vehicle being ridden on Fenton Ave.

Police said the rider left the vehicle and fled with a second man.

Ten days later, police allege a youth was involved in a fight with a 53-year-old woman and a 17-year-old youth on Parry Street at Cooks Hill.

Police will allege the pair were threatened with a knife and the woman suffered a small cut to her left arm.

The youth was arrested on Monday afternoon and later charged with robbery in company, using offensive weapon with intent to commit and indictable offence, reckless wounding and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm.

He was refused bail to appear in court on Tuesday.

Investigations are continuing into identifying the second man involved in the alleged postie robbery.
