Mum begs to plead guilty to get kids back for Christmas after alleged hydro house raid

A young mum from Bankstown is begging to enter a guilty plea after police raided her husband’s alleged hydro setup so she can get her kids back for Christmas - but there’s now a delay.

Rights are being ‘sacrificed to accommodate’ illicit drug users

A Sydney mum is begging to be sentenced for a minor drug charge after police raided her husband‘s alleged hydro house, but red tape means her children will spend Christmas in the care of the state, a court has heard.

The mother, who cannot be named to protect the identity of her children, appeared in Burwood Local Court last week clutching prayer cards and making the sign of the cross as her matter was called.

Court documents allege police found 26 marijuana plants growing inside the Bankstown home she shared with her husband and two very young children.

The young woman was charged with four offences including marijuana cultivation and exposing a child to drugs.

But, the courts have heard, all but one charge will likely be dropped because the plants allegedly belonged to her husband.

The young mother’s lawyer, Omar Juweinat, told the court that prosecutors agreed they would settle for a guilty plea to one count of exposing a child to drugs.

The mother is keen to plead guilty as soon as possible, Mr Juweinat told the court, because she will get her children back immediately.

But, the lawyer told the court, the Director of Public Prosecutions had refused to formally consent to the deal.

“This offer was made four-score and seven years ago,” Mr Juweinat told the court.

“At this rate this woman is not going to get her children back any time before Christmas.”

The Daily Telegraph understands the family is from a European minority and fled violence in their home country before arriving in Australia.

A police court document alleges anti-drug Strike force Polar confronted the mother at the front door of the home as she took her children to daycare.

The mother told police, according to the court document, she believed her husband works in a pizza shop and didn’t know how they paid the bills.

The woman‘s case continues.
