A member of the Mariam clan allegedly kidnapped a man and detained him for 10 hours in an effort to lure his friend there, who he then tried to kill.
The shocking incident allegedly involving Moustafa Mariam began on a Saturday night in March last year and continued until about 4am the next morning.
Police allege that Mariam, 37, and his co-accused Imad Warwar allegedly detained Issa Hammoud for 10 hours, during which time they tried to get him to “contact and lure out Asesela Davui”.
When Davui arrived near the corner of Stoddart St and Moorefields Rd about 3.30am the next morning the pair allegedly opened fire on his car, shooting him in the leg and buttock.
Local residents heard the gunfire and called police, who rushed to the scene.
After noticing bullet holes in the driver’s side of his Holden Captiva they pulled Davui, 32, over and he was taken to hospital, before later being released.
Strike Force Alecia was formed by Campsie detectives to investigate the shooting.
Warwar was arrested after presenting to Burwood Police Station last Thursday and charged with detain in company with intent to get advantage, conspire and agree to murder, and shoot at with intent to murder.
He faced Burwood Local Court on Friday and did not apply for bail. He is due to reappear on October 19.
Mariam spent Sunday night in custody at Day St Police Station after being charged with the same three offences.
His matter was mentioned in Downing Centre Local Court on Monday and he made no application for bail.
Mariam’s appearance in court came on the same day NSW Police issued an arrest warrant for older brother Mahmoud, over unrelated offences.
Police allege the convicted killer is also part of the crime clan and is wanted on drug and weapons charges.
Mahmoud previously did jail time for the freak shooting death of truck driver Bob Knight at Milperra in 2009.
