Michael Slater charged after alleged domestic violence incident

A stony-faced, unshaven Michael Slater declined to answer questions from reporters this afternoon after the Australian cricket great was charged over an alleged domestic violence incident.

Australian cricket great Michael Slater has left Manly Police Station after being arrested and charged today over an alleged domestic violence incident.

The 51-year-old was taken into custody at a Manly home on Sydney’s Northern Beaches this morning.

“Officers attached to the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command commenced an investigation yesterday after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident alleged to have occurred on Tuesday, 12 October 2021,’’ a NSW Police said in a statement.

“Following inquiries, detectives attended a home at Manly about 9.20am and spoke with a 51-year-old man. He has since been arrested and taken to Manly Police Station.”

The former test opener was questioned by police from the eastern suburbs at Manly police station.

Slater left the police station on Belgrave St just after 3pm accompanied by Manly solicitor James McLoughlin.

As a stony-faced, unshaven Slater made his way slowly to the car, he stared straight ahead and declined to answer questions peppered at him by reporters.

Mr McLoughlin told the waiting media that his client would not be making any comment.

They pushed through the media scrum to a luxury BMW 4WD that had arrived outside the police station to pick up Slater.

Slater was wearing a black, Kathmandu short-sleeved jacket and a black and white baseball-style cap.

He will appear at Waverley Court on Thursday, November 11, facing a charge of use carriage service to menace/harass/offend; and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm.

He was granted conditional bail by the police.

Slater recently lost his job as a commentator at Channel 7 after he publicly attacked Scott Morrison on Twitter over not doing enough to get Australians home during the pandemic.

He played 74 tests for Australia between 1993 and 2001.
