A young Dapto man has admitted to selling cocaine, after he was busted with more than 10 grams of the drug and almost $50,000 in cash.
Michael Meredith was arrested in Dapto in June while he was in the middle of a drug deal.
The 28-year-old faced Wollongong Local Court from a jail cell last week, where his lawyer Abbas Soukie entered pleas of guilty to supply prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug and deal with the proceeds of crime.
In documents tendered to the court, it was revealed police from Lake Illawarra began investigating Meredith back in April, over his involvement in the supply of cocaine across the region.
Meredith was the subject of physical surveillance on several occasions up until his arrest, including in May and June.
On the day of his arrest, police watched on as Meredith facilitated a drug deal on Baan Baan Street in Dapto.
Investigators watched as a man jumped into the passenger seat of Meredith’s Toyota Aurion, before pouncing on the 28-year-old mid-deal.
Police opened the driver’s side door and saw $50 notes all over Meredith’s lap, and at his feet in the footwell.
According to the documents, police ordered Meredith out of the vehicle and subjected him to a search, finding 14 satchel bags filled with a “white powder” and a plastic bag containing $47,590 cash in the centre console.
Police placed him under arrest before raiding his Osborne Street home, where they found 1.65g of cannabis, located in a cigar box in the kitchen and three sets of scales and 400 small resealable bags.
The white powder was forensically assessed and found to be 10.80 grams of cocaine.
Meredith, who remains on remand in custody will be sentenced in the NSW District COurt at a later date.
