Police are hunting three men who they say are extremely dangerous and were planning to commit a robbery in the Penrith area.

Warrants for the arrest of Nathan Stuart, 39, Rodney O‘Reilly, 34, and Simon Khurana were obtained last week by the Robbery and Serious Crime Unit.

NSW Police believe the men were planning to carry out a robbery on a person or a location and possibly an abduction for ransom.

There is no suggestion these men were involved in any other kidnappings.

“At this stage they are wanted for conspiracy to commit robbery. These three are very well known to the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad,” Detective Superintendent Joe Doueihi.

“It is not beyond the realms of possibility that these offenders may have intended to kidnap someone as part of the robbery.”

Police have information the trio were in a stolen car on March 22 and March 23 and were planning to carry out a robbery.

Two of the men, Stuart and O‘Reilly, are known to have a long association with the Glebe area while the third man, Khurana, is from South Australia.

They are now being pursued by officers from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad which comprises more than 70 detectives as well intelligence analysts who help them track down known offenders wanted for serious crimes.

The squad also investigates abductions.

“This squad specialises in securing the release of hostages safely, and very often with little fanfare or publicity,” director of Crime Operations, Assistant Commissioner Jason Weinstein, said.

“Much of their work is covert and the methodology in tracking down and investigating hostages has to be kept secret for the sake of future operations. There is so much at stake in these life-and-death operations.

“There is also a fugitive element within the squad which pursues those criminals wanted on outstanding warrants.”
