Man in serious condition after suffering stab wounds in brawl on Donald Street, Nelson Bay

The victim, 41, suffered two collapsed lungs after being found with multiple stab wounds following the early morning street brawl in Nelson Bay’s CBD.

A man was rushed to hospital with collapsed lungs after suffering multiple stab wounds in a Nelson Bay street brawl.

Just after 1.30am on Sunday, emergency services were called to Donald Street following reports of a brawl.

Port Stephens-Hunter police were called to a Shoal Bay Road home a short time later and found a 41-year-old man suffering several stab wounds to the back.

He was treated by paramedics before being rushed to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition, suffering collapsed lungs as well as bruising and lacerations to his head.

Police searched Donald Street and “located a number of items which were seized for forensic examination”, police said in a statement.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers.

“As inquiries into the incident continue, police believe there are witnesses to the incident who have not yet come forward and are encouraging anyone with information, or who has dashcam footage, to contact Crime Stoppers,” police said.
