A man is in custody while another is on the run, after allegedly fleeing from a break and enter in Penshurst, which NSW Police say ended in a car crash leaving an innocent woman seriously injured.
Officers were called to a unit on Penshurst Street at around 7:30am to investigate reports of a burglary.
Upon arrival, police say they witnessed a white Audi fleeing the scene but decided not to launch a pursuit.
Shortly afterwards, the Audi collided with a Suzuki hatch near Hurstville Oval on Dora Street, and police allege the male driver and his passenger ran away on foot.
Officers arrested one man, but are still searching for another described as “of Middle Eastern appearance wearing dark clothing”.
The crash left a woman in her 20s trapped in the Suzuki, who has since been treated for injuries to her arm and hip by paramedics.
She has been taken to St George Hospital in a serious condition.
